St Austell Wines

About Us

Louisa Fitzpatrick

Head Of Wine

Key contact for all wine matters
Louisa started her wine career in London but after many a happy childhood holiday set her heart on relocating to Cornwall and joined the team in 2005. Louisa was promoted to Wine Buyer in 2015 and Head of Wine in 2018. Whilst she relishes the challenges of the role, she still loves spending time out on the road, reminiscing with all of the customers she’s worked with over the years. Louisa is no cheap date and as a rule likes to drink rich, white Burgundies and vintage Champagne (don’t we all!), but she is also loving Crazy Tropez Provence Rosé from Domaine Tropez for its serious wine making with a fun approach. A wild walk with the mini Fitzies is Louisa’s way of unwinding and if a glass of wine isn’t to hand, she also loves Black Cow Vodka from Dorset.

Sean Jarvis

Purchasing Manager

Responsible for purchasing all beers, ciders, wines, spirits, soft drinks and minerals
Sean moved to St Austell Brewery in 2010 to become Purchasing Manager and he loves keeping his finger on the pulse of what’s new in the drinks industry. Sean is a firm believer that product knowledge is key and particulary enjoys the Italian selection we have but his ultimate favourite is the Spanish Fincas de Azabache Rioja Crianza with its bulbous, vintage style bottle. When not at the negotiating table, Sean loves to be outdoors and can usually be found at the beach or watching a game of local rugby, typically with a pint of Proper Job ale in his hand.

Ruth Benney

Wine Development Manager

Key contact for wine in North and Mid-Cornwall
Ruth joined St Austell Wines in 2011 and as well as looking after the customers on her patch, has more recently started working on the marketing side of the wine business which gives her the opportunity to channel some of her creative energy. Ruth’s go-to wine is usually something aromatic and white to compliment her takeaway food addiction. If she had to choose it would be Devil’s Corner Riesling from Tasmania, Australia which is fabulous with a mean Thai green curry. When not working? Ruth likes to explore the geographical and culinary delights of the South West.

Catherine Murden

Wine Development Manager

Key contact for wine in West Cornwall
Catherine joined the company over 20 years ago and her love of wine originated from time spent working at Bruisyard Vineyard in Suffolk. The best thing about the job for Catherine is getting a customer to fall in love with a wine and then helping them to pass on their passion by promoting wines in their establishment. Catherine likes to keep things traditional and tends to prefer Old World offerings from Italy and France, with her wine of the moment being Colombo & Fille Côtes du Rhône – a deliciously balanced, easy drinking red from talented female winemaker Laure Colombo. An Icelandic vodka and tonic is her next best tipple, preferably supped after a long day at the beach with her kids.

James Fineman

Wine Development Manager

Key contact for wine in South Somerset, Dorset, Bath, Wiltshire
James joined the team in 2006 and has nearly 20 years of experience in the wine trade having previously worked for Yapp Brothers and Majestic Wine. He loves the diversity of the industry and the product passion which runs right through its core. James’ desert island wine is a Rhône red as he loves the blend complexities of the region but at the moment he’s also rather partial to Vega, a rich and full-bodied red from the Douro Port region of Portugal. If the wine runs out, James is just as happy with a pint of real ale. When not at work, James enjoys his second job as glorified taxi driver to his two children or getting out to the countryside for long dog walks.

Pip Vanham

Wine Development Manager

Key contact for wine in Devon and North Somerset
Pip joined the team in 2015 having relocated to the Southwest from London. Getting to know her customers and travelling between meetings has really helped her find her bearings in this beautiful part of the world. Pip loves a rich, bold red and finds Italy most fascinating in terms of variety, but it’s the South African Baldrick Shiraz which is her bottle of choice at the moment. If it’s not a glass of wine in her hand, it’s a nice cup of (Yorkshire) tea. Pip is a qualified Wine Educator but when she’s not imparting her immense wine knowledge to her customers, you might find her exploring a National Trust property, running a marathon or simply perfecting a yoga pose.

Kellie Davidson

Wine Development Manager

Key contact for wine in Bristol and Gloucestershire
Kellie joined the wine team in 2016 having worked for Matthew Clarke for the previous 13 years. She is a true people person and loves meeting new customers everyday, and they usually adore her right back. Kellie is a real advocate of the True Zin red from Puglia – Italy’s clever take on the popular Californian big red style. Failing that, a good Malbec usually hits the mark…or a G&T! Kellie is based in the Bath area and when not delighting her customers, loves a good stomp in the country with her trusty hound Millie.

Patrick Goudge

Wine Development Manager

Key contact for wine in Plymouth, Dartmoor and South Cornwall
Our newest recruit joined us in June 2018 but started his wine career as a door-to-door wine-tasting salesman. Thankfully, he’s since dropped the shiny suit but kept his passion for fermented grape juice as well as gaining a whole load of experience via Majestic Wine and Great Western Wine. For Patrick, the job is all about the people and he enjoys meeting new customers and working out what floats their wine boat. We are expecting a boost to our Cabernet sales as Patrick is a huge fan, especially when it’s a big Californian paired with a juicy steak. For more everyday drinking, Patrick favours a tasty Rioja. Like the rest of us, Patrick loves the great outdoors particularly when experienced from behind the wheel of his trusty camper van ‘Brenda von Blue Van’ and sporting his golden brogues…

Marla Montgomery

Wine Administrator

Wine administrator for all wine matters
Marla has worked for the Brewery since 2001 and was the life and soul of the Telesales department until she was head-hunted by the wine team in 2017. Marla knows our portfolio inside out and loves being the font of all knowledge for our close-knit team. Having previously lived the high-life working for Virgin Atlantic, Marla is rather partial to a Champagne cocktail but nowadays is more likely to be found curled up with a good book and a glass of Pinot Grigio.

Phil Sandford

Wine Inventory Controller

Responsible for all inventory and logistics of wine
Phil has worked for the company since 1988 and whilst officially part of the Inventory Department, his role as the wine stock guru makes him integral to the wine team. Phil loves the ever-challenging logistics of the wine world and if you need to get a container load of the good stuff from one side of the planet to the other as quickly as possible, Phil’s your man. Whilst Phil is mostly fuelled by black coffee, once he gets home and puts his feet up, it’s with a glass of Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc and his favourite vinyl playing on the Hi Fi in the background.
